Resolved 15

As a young man Jonathan Edwards gave himself 70 resolutions to read weekly and pursue relentlessly. This 13th year of the 2nd millennium I have decided to reread and meditate upon his words, which so intrigued me as a teenager.

15 Resolved – Never to suffer the least motions of anger towards irrational beings.

Umm – Some things are just not worth spending your emotional or physical energy on because of who is involved.

Resolved 14

As a young man Jonathan Edwards gave himself 70 resolutions to read weekly and pursue relentlessly. This 13th year of the 2nd millennium I have decided to reread and meditate upon his words, which so intrigued me as a teenager.

14 Resolved – Never to do anything out of revenge.

Hmm – If I extrapolate this statement into every relationship in my life this is gutting. How uplifting to be free from vengeance.

Resolved 13

As a young man Jonathan Edwards gave himself 70 resolutions to read weekly and pursue relentlessly. This 13th year of the 2nd millennium I have decided to reread and meditate upon his words, which so intrigued me as a teenager.

13 Resolved – To be endeavoring to find out fit objects of charity and liberality.

In The Morning

As I was reading through the Psalms for a seminary course I was caught up in the use of “morning” between Psalm 50-100 so I wanted to share.

  • In the morning I utter complaints and he hears me (55:17).
  • I will sing of God’s steadfast love in the morning because His defense (59:16).
  • The morning, along with the evening, shout for joy because of you (65:8).
  • In the morning my prayer comes before you (88:13).
  • The grass is renewed and flourishes in the morning (90:5,6).
  • You satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love enabling me to rejoice all my days (90:14).
  • I declare your steadfast love in the morning (92:2).

Yes, I love the morning! In the morning I want to sing of God’s steadfast love.

Resolved 12

As a young man Jonathan Edwards gave himself 70 resolutions to read weekly and pursue relentlessly. This 13th year of the 2nd millennium I have decided to reread and meditate upon his words, which so intrigued me as a teenager.

12 Resolved – If I take delight in it as a gratification of pride or vanity, or on any such account, immediately to throw it by.

Hmm – Pride & vanity encapsulate my life often. To be this sensitive to your own depravity is convicting yet inspiring.
